Randall Michael Tobin in conjunction with Concerts In Your Home presents Theta Sound Studio LIVE! — A chance to see amazing artists before they become the hottest ticket in town!
TSS Live! is your ticket to hearing top artists, many of them from outside of L.A., hand-picked by award-winning music producer Randall Michael Tobin just for this series. For a nominal donation (all of which goes to the artists), you get admission to Theta Sound Studio’s main room to experience two artists, each performing their own set in an intimate environment. Additionally, your donation entitles you to receive one CD from each artist! (see below for details)
Parking is free and refreshments will be served during intermission.
Seating in the main room is limited to 23 guests. But there are a few seats available in the control room where you can watch, listen, and see Randall Michael Tobin work his magic at the mixing console.
Our concert for February is a celebration of nylon-string classical guitars (and vocals) featuring The Mark & Leslie Duo with special guest Howard Heitmeyer, plus Ted Owens (keep reading…).
LESLIE & MARK – a Pop Duo on Classical Guitars
Leslie Lewis and Mark Achuff have performed together for the last three years at various venues throughout the Los Angeles area. They specialize in performing the vocal and guitar duet arrangements of Howard Heitmeyer: composer and master arranger of all genres of music for the nylon string solo guitar. Over the years Howard has associated with all the guitar greats from Andres Segovia and Laurindo Almeida, to Howard Roberts, Tommy Tedesco, and Barney Kessel. Howard spent many years as an active L.A. recording session player and as a stage performer with Bobby Troupe and other jazz and pop stars. Mark and Leslie are honored to present Howard’s well-crafted arrangements. Howard coaches this fine duo on a regular basis with performance tips and all kinds of great stories about the good old days of jazz and the formation of the Great American Songbook.
Leslie has studied guitar with Howard for 20+ years. Mark studied the classical guitar at Cal State Fullerton and at an early age had the privilege of taking private lessons with guitar great, George Van Eps.
Leslie and Mark are pleased to present TSS LIVE! with a house concert of “Lovely, popular music and songs from the 1930s 40s, and 50s, with some Spanish boleros added in for a touch of spice!!” Enjoy.
TED OWENS
Ted Owens plays many different styles of guitar from flamenco (Ted studied with Adam del Monte) and classical, to rock (classic and modern) and blues. An accomplished teacher as well as recording artist and touring musician, Ted brings a wealth of guitar knowledge to share with all who attend this special concert!
Suggested donation options: Single Guest: $20 (includes concert and one CD from each artist); Couple: $30 (includes concert for two and one CD from each artist). You may also donate $10 (per guest) for the concert only and purchase CDs later for whatever the artists usually charge.
