Randall recalls “playing” a piano around age six, meaning, playing to him was just making sounds. But it wasn’t long before he was learning to play by ear, taking the music of popular radio and finding ways to play it on the piano. This allowed Randall to compose music without having to write it down first, taking a creative concept and going straight to the instrument. The music for The Snow Queen Ballet was written in this manner, and with the time constraints of the initial assignment (12 Sundays before curtain), that process made the completion of the music score possible!
